[The Episcopal News] Bringing expertise in digital media and news writing, Mostyn Trudinger-Smith has been named communications coordinator on the diocesan staff.
“We welcome Mostyn and give thanks for his gifts and experience,” said Bishop John Harvey Taylor. “They dovetail with the evolving vision of our communications ministry, combining well-reported, in-depth content with a deeper footprint across social media.”
Trudinger-Smith, a graduate of Occidental College where he helped edit and manage the campus newspaper, is assuming responsibilities held by Canon Janet Kawamoto, who has announced her retirement effective this December after 22 years as editor of The Episcopal News.
In a newly configured position, Trudinger-Smith will serve as diocesan webmaster and share in producing video and expanding social media posts across platforms.
He joins in collaboration with Canon for Common Life Bob Williams, who leads the diocesan communications team, and the Rev. Canon Pat McCaughan, senior correspondent and clergy newsletter editor, along with Kawamoto.
“I’m really grateful to be joining the diocesan staff, and I’m excited to be a part of this good work and great team,” said Trudinger-Smith, an Arizona native who served recently with the diocesan Interfaith Refugee and Immigration Services (IRIS) as a Jubilee Service Fellow assisting case managers and attorneys. “It’s such a pleasure meeting new colleagues, and I look forward to working with everyone and serving the diocesan community.”
“It is a joy to welcome Mostyn to the diocesan staff,” Williams said of Trudinger-Smith’s appointment, the outcome of a national search begun last spring. “His professional expertise, insightful worldview, and kind manner are great gifts to our shared work of diocesan communication.”
