[The Episcopal News] St. Joseph’s Episcopal Church and National CORE invite the diocesan community to a groundbreaking ceremony for Orchard View Gardens, an affordable housing project with 66 apartment homes serving seniors ages 62 and up on the church’s property in Buena Park.

The groundbreaking will be held on Tuesday, Aug. 15, 10 a.m. at the building site, 8300 Valley View Street, Buena Park 90620.

The development is a partnership between National CORE and St. Josephʼs Church, creating a new community benefit on previously underutilized church land.

The new community’s California Mission architectural style will complement the church and surrounding neighborhoods. A cluster of nine single-story casitas will sit on the propertyʼs north side with taller buildings to the west and at the center. Eight homes are reserved for seniors who have experienced homelessness.

The complex is within walking distance of retail shops, grocery stores, parks and services. Amenities will include a 3,000-square-foot community room, a fitness room, computer room, private patios and balconies, outdoor lounge area, recreational area and barbecues. The community will be pet-friendly and feature laundry facilities on each floor. A solar panel system will provide energy for heating and cooling. Services for residents will be provided by the Hope through Housing Foundation and the Orange County Health Care Agency.
