The Bishop Search Committee created the atmosphere of a chapel and wrote a litany for guidance and discernment as all members gathered Saturday, Sept. 6, in the Jonathan Daniels Room at St. Paul’s Commons to name the slate of candidates for eighth bishop of the Diocese of Los Angeles.
Those names, along with background information on the candidates, have been sent to the Standing Committee. The Standing Committee met today with the Search Committee co-chairs to confirm the slate, which will be announced to the diocese on Friday, Sept. 12.
The litany, which invited the prayers of saints ancient and modern, asked God to “give us courage to follow where You lead” and to “grant us discernment in all our decisions.”
“It was a prayerful, thoughtful atmosphere in which we spoke frankly and lovingly and made a sacred decision,” co-chair Thomas Diaz of All Saints Pasadena said.
“But we’ve done it – after all these months, we’ve named a slate, and we are delighted to be able to share those names with you soon,” said the other co-chair, the Rev. KC Robertson of St. Matthew’s, Pacific Palisades.
Watch for the announcement at 9 a.m. Pacific Time on Friday, to be followed by additional materials in coming days, including videos from the candidates.
