Watch Video Here: TELL OUT YOUR SOUL! Sacred Leadership Licensing
Registration for a new session of Sacred Leadership Licensing courses — formerly Lay Licensing (including lay Eucharistic ministers and lay readers) — is now live on the Bloy House website. For program details, please view the video above.
“With new and revamped offerings, we are excited to invite diocesan-wide participation, as the future of the church depends on all of us,” said the Rev. Paul Daniels, dean of Bloy House.
Summer session for 2025 runs May 26th to July 6th, with courses meeting one day a week for one hour for the 6-week session. Courses:
Governance
The Rev. Jeff Thornberg (Episcopal Diocese of Los Angeles), Mondays at 7pm
A 6-week course for lay leaders seeking to understand the polity of the Episcopal Church and how intentional, informed leadership can develop healthier systems and churches. (Especially desirable for Vestries!)
Episcopal identity
The Rev. Matt Babcock (The Episcopal Diocese of Atlanta), Tuesdays at 7pm
How would you describe the modern Episcopal Church – its theology, its worship and community, its history, its organization, and what you love about it – to a friend who has never experienced it? A deeper dive than a confirmation class, even cradle Episcopalians will learn something new about our church.
Preaching
w/ Joshua Lazard (Boston University), Wednesdays at 7pm
This 6-week course explores the methods, techniques, and theories of preaching in congregational contexts that is deeply rooted in scripture, storytelling, history, and the lived experiences of Christians seeking truth.
Intro to bible
The Rev. Mary Tororeiy (The Episcopal Diocese of Los Angeles), Thursdays at 7pm
Anti-racism
Suzanne Acton-Edwards, (The Episcopal Diocese of Los Angeles)
Storytelling
Samuel Ernest (Yale University), Sundays at 7pm
How is understanding the story of your own faith journey important for sharing Christ with others? How did Jesus use storytelling in his ministry? Can learning about storytelling help your preaching or teaching? How do we approach evangelism in the Episcopal church? We’ll explore this and many other topics in this fun and engaging class.
