The Rev. Weaver Stevens, former rector of St. Michael & All Angels Church, Studio City, died from a sudden heart attack on December 13, 2009. He was 80, and had been living in Maryland in retirement.
Stevens retired in 1992 after serving as rector of St. Michael’s for 25 years. He had previously been a curate at St. James’ Church and concurrently vicar of Christ Chapel (now closed), both in Los Angeles, from 1955 to 1959. He became rector of St. James’ Church in 1962, a post he held until becoming rector of St. Michael’s in 1966.
A licensed Jungian psychotherapist, he served as a member of the Board of Resthaven Psychiatric Hospital, and on the staff of the Footlighters’ Child Guidance Clinic.
He was a graduate of Virginia Seminary, and also earned a degree at Oxford University. He was ordained to the diaconate in 1955 by Bishop F. Eric Bloy, who also ordained him to the priesthood the following year.
Stevens was born in Stafford, Arizona, on November 14, 1929. He graduated from high school in Los Angeles and received a B.D. from UCLA in 1952. He married Anne Haslett on July 21, 1962.
