You meet the most amazing people around the Episcopal Diocese of Los Angeles, including Head of School Laura D. Ross and President Rick Commons of Harvard Westlake School, on whose board I sit (and pray over at the start of board meetings); I snapped this photo during our fall meeting, when I also looked in on the middle school orchestra, making like the LA Phil…along with Kathy Hannigan O’Connor at the annual Hope Through Housing gala at the Rancho Cucamonga headquarters of our affordable housing partner National CORE: Public affairs executive William Diepenbrock (an old friend from his days at the Orange County Register), the Rev. Michael S. Bell of Episcopal Communities & Services, and Greg Marshall of Saint Ambrose Episcopal Church in Claremont, finalizing plans for their housing project; and with Michael, CEO Rebecca F. Clark of Linc Housing, another leading nonprofit developer…at our annual diocesan staff recognition luncheon at St. Paul’s Commons, Echo Park, Martha Macias, honored for five years of devoted service, Canons Anilin Pulido Collado (35 years) and Clare Zabala-Bangao (25 years), and Ruben Tomasian (ten years)…and at the annual UC San Diego alumni/ae awards dinner in Los Angeles, honoree (and my Muir College ’80 classmate) Jamie Montgomery of The Parish of St. Matthew in Pacific Palisades; after presenting Jamie’s award, Chancellor Pradeep K. Khosla (who said that five of our fellow alums, not including us, received Nobel prizes this year) called up Jamie’s spouse, Annabel, namesake of Annabel’s Kitchen at the university’s new crafts center.
