Gracious God in Christ, who shepherds your people through the wilderness, lighting us forward to the realm of freedom and truth even when sin tries to block our way: We give you thanks for the courage and wisdom of Carter G. Woodson. Historian and activist, Carter planned and executed the first Black History Week 99 years ago this month, empowering students and historians, especially those of African descent, to study and write the stories of Black Americans rendered invisible or unrecognizable by the establishment of white historians. Through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
