Almighty God, at whose feet the nations sit: Governments clothed with immense power can use it for good, or for ill. They can maximize their interests in every situation, or reserve a measure of their great wealth for those in need. They can mind their own business, or acknowledge the interconnectedness of all people and creation and behave like responsible members of a global community. The combatants themselves bear the principal responsibility for famine in Gaza. But every other nation has a moral responsibility to ameliorate the crisis to the full extension of their capacity. The more wealth and diplomatic influence we have, the more we must do. We pray that you will inspire those in power, especially those who may posture and claim they fear you, to do what you require.
