O God, by your grace you have called us in the Episcopal Diocese of Los Angeles to a goodly fellowship of faith. As the year’s round of deanery assemblies gets underway today, on our way to diocesan convention Nov. 7-8, bless all our priests, nominees for bishop, laypeople, deacons, and bishops as well as the communities we serve. Grant that your Word may be truly preached and truly heard, your Sacraments faithfully administered and faithfully received. By your Spirit, fashion our lives according to the example of your Son, and grant that we may show the power of your love to all among whom we live; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

(Note: With Canons Kathy Hannigan O’Connor and Andy Tomat, diocesan treasurer; Andy features at today’s joint assemblies. We ran into each other Friday evening at The Huntington Library, Art Museum, and Botanical Gardens’ annual Halloween celebration, which included a presentation, complete with audio recordings, of purported “intelligent hauntings” at Alcatraz, the Queen Mary, and the Calico Ghost Town. Who says science is dead?)
