Almighty God, we lift our prayers for Leo XIV, the native Chicagoan called today as bishop of Rome. His namesake Leo XIII was devoted to the dignity of every human being, especially working people, and wise in the ways of secular politics in a world in the grip of rising nationalism and on the brink of the catastrophe of World War I. We pray Leo XIV will be a prophet of justice, peace, and deep ecumenical and interfaith understanding and collaboration, for the sake of your glory and the thriving of all your people. Through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
