God of hearth and home, God of battlefield and detention center, God of hospital and shelter, God of our fears and dreams, our God in Christ: Our wellspring of thanksgiving is brimming today. For those who prepare, cook, and clean, and those who do not. For those who are resilient in their loneliness. For those preparing to serve dinner to hundreds of our neighbors from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at St. Paul’s Commons, Echo Park. For family who are present and family who are gone. For music, laughter, and games, including a football classic. For those who work for peace and those standing cold and weary on the ramparts. For those who work and wait for justice. For life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness, as you ordained and the founders promised — where they abide that they may persist, and where they are denied that that may be restored. Thanksgiving for your invitation to each of us to twin our love with yours — for the Thanksgiving table of your dreams, and at our best, of ours, where no one is missing. Through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
