November 10, 1941 – May 27, 2015
The Rev. Eugenio Ayala-Porfil, former vicar of Holy Family Mission, North Hollywood, and a priest of the Episcopal Church for nearly 50 years, died on May 27 at Good Samaritan Hospital in Los Angeles. Originally from Puerto Rico, he had served as priest in the Diocese of Los Angeles since 2002.
Survivors include Pastor Ayala’s wife, the Rev. Vanessa Mackenzie, whom he married on January 3, 2004; two sisters; six children; a nephew; 14 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren; and many friends and colleagues in Puerto Rico.
His funeral and burial will take place on June 8 at All Saints Church in Vieques, Puerto Rico, where he was baptized and served his first curacy after he was ordained to the diaconate in 1965 and to the priesthood in 1966. He was born in Vieques on November 10, 1941. In addition to his ministry in Puerto Rico and Los Angeles, he served for six years as dean of the Anglican cathedral in Mexico City, where the Rt. Rev. Sergio Carranza-Gomez was bishop.
Bishop Suffragan Mary D. Glasspool will preside at a memorial service at 2 p.m. on Saturday, June 20 at the ProCathedral of St. John, 514 W. Adams Blvd., Los Angeles 90007. A reception will follow the service.
