[The Episcopal News] A Sept. 14 11 a.m. memorial service at Trinity Church, Orange, has been set for the late Nancy Houston Guthrie, a lay leader St. Stephen’s in Beaumont and and longtime parish administrator in Orange County congregations, who died Feb. 7 at age 89.
Survivors include her daughter, Heidi Fernandez, stepsons Tom and Mike Guthrie, and five grandchildren.
For several years, Guthrie served as parish administrator at Trinity Church, located at 2400 N. Canal St. in Orange. She also served in similar capacities at St. Andrew’s in Fullerton, St. Paul’s in Tustin, and St. Mary’s in Laguna Beach. She was a parishioner at these congregations, and at St. George’s in Laguna Hills.
Guthrie was well known in the Beaumont community for her leadership in several justice causes, including the local food pantry and Festival of Christmas Trees fundraiser, which last year raised $20,000 to benefit three local nonprofits: Carol’s Kitchen, H.E.L.P. Inc., and Table of Plenty, which together serve thousands of meals in the Beaumont-Banning area.
Born in Seattle, Guthrie attended the University of Washington. A resident of the Sun Lakes Country Club community, she was an avid world traveler.
Her family has requested that memorial gifts, in lieu of flowers, be made to the Girls Friendly Society, an Episcopal churchwide ministry with members around the Diocese of Los Angeles.
