The Rev. Jessie Smith, specialist in interfaith ministry, is rector of St. Ambrose Episcopal Church in Claremont, which thanks to her leadership is preparing to build affordable housing on their campus. Her friend since their undergraduate days 20 years ago and spouse since June, Reginald Turner is executive director of Cultural Capital Haiti, the non-profit he founded to help fill the vacuum left by aid workers who’ve fled the country’s political chaos. In other words, a true Episcopal Diocese of Los Angeles power couple. I took them to dinner in Claremont last night to celebrate their wedding and their partnership in service to God’s people.
