Dear Lord, your son lamented because those in authority in Jerusalem killed the prophets you sent. All he wanted was to gather your children in safety, as a hen gathers her brood. In Jerusalem, we weep for those who died at the Covenant School in Nashville, in the 128th mass shooting in the United States this year. We beseech you to comfort those who mourn and open our ears to your prophets of common sense and the art of the possible. We have the means to make our schools and communities safer. Give us grace to spread our wings and do it. Through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
