Though he retired as rector of St. Gabriel’s Episcopal Church in Monterey Park in 2017, the Rev. Canon David Chee is usually in town for a service or two at Christmastime, by invitation of the priest in charge, the Rev. Canon Ada Wong-Nagata.This year was no exception. He was back at the altar on Christmas Day. He and Amy are also visiting family and friends in the Bay Area and southern California before returning home to Singapore to celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary in mid-January.
Canon David and I met for lunch on Friday in the City of Industry for a wide-ranging conversation about family, politics and geopolitics, parish ministry, and theological education. He’s a former dean of the Trinity School for Christian Ministry in Taiwan, which trains lay and ordained leaders, offering excellent teaching without accredited degrees.
