The Priory in the USA of the Order of St. John, part of an international organization chartered by Queen Victoria in 1888, traces its roots to the Knights of Malta. It funds health services in Israel and Palestine, including the St. John Eye Hospital Group. All we “confreres” were approved for membership by Elizabeth II (since I doubt King Charles has had time to review any candidate lists). This afternoon members and friends of the order from the Los Angeles area, and especially All Saints’, Beverly Hills, gathered for a reception at Kathy Hannigan O’Connor’s and my house, aka the episcopal residence. Regional co-chairs Tom Roedl and Brian Landers presided. Organizers are preparing for the order’s annual new member installation service next October at All Saints.
