Among the manifold mysteries of Christian faith is that while our God in Christ played no role in bringing about our wildfire crisis, they are fully engaged through the Holy Spirit in the season of recovery and healing, with all the angels of heaven attending.
One striking local example is the ministry of Bishop Brenda Bos of the Southwest California Synod ELCA. She and her spouse, Janis Reid of All Saints Episcopal Church in Pasadena, lost their home in the Eaton fire. Yet she will also remember this month of dark and sorrows because of the happy event of the publication, on Jan. 28, of her new book, “Refilling the Reservoirs: Spiritual Care for the Exhausted Caregiver.”
The mysterious Spirit is working overtime, since I’m confident a book was never more aptly conceived, titled, and timed. I’ve already ordered my copy. I invite all the exhausted baptized pastors of God to join me.
