About University of the South – Sewanee, Tennessee

The University of the South is the only university in the nation that is owned and governed by dioceses of The Episcopal Church. Founded over 150 years ago, Sewanee is committed to being a resource for the whole church.

Located atop the Cumberland Plateau between Nashville and Chattanooga, Sewanee’s 13,000-acre campus provides students with vast opportunities for research, recreation, and reflection. The University consists of a College of Arts & Sciences, a summer School of Letters offering an MA in English and an MFA in Creative Writing, and one of the healthiest and most distinguished seminaries in the country.

Our Beecken Center within the School of Theology is home to Education for Ministry (EfM), a 4-year distance learning program in theological education, and Invite Welcome Connect, a ministry which provides a practical theological framework and comprehensive process for engaging communities in the all-important disciplines of evangelism, hospitality, and belonging.
